If you thought Five Guys’ hand-cut fries were already elite, think again. The cult burger brand has officially raised the bar with the launch of its brand-new Loaded Fries, landing nationwide from the 9th of December, and after trying them in person, we can confidently say: this is a game-changer.

Last week, a friend and I headed to Five Guys in King’s Cross to put the new Loaded Fries to the test, and the verdict was unanimous. Indulgent, customisable and utterly addictive, these fries feel like the ultimate comfort food upgrade, just in time for the festive season.

What’s New on the Menu?

For the first time since the brand was founded in 1986, Five Guys has added a brand-new food item to its menu, a big deal for a brand famously loyal to its core offering. The new Loaded Fries start with their iconic hand-cut potatoes (cooked in peanut oil, as always), before being smothered in hot cheese sauce and a secret fry sauce, then finished with up to 14 toppings of your choice.

Just like their burgers, the beauty lies in the personalisation. Customers can choose between Salted or Cajun fries, then pile on toppings such as grilled onions, bacon, pickles, jalapeños and the newly introduced crispy onions, which add a seriously satisfying crunch. With over 131,000 possible combinations, it is safe to say there is a Loaded Fries option for every mood and craving.

What we ordered

On our visit, we went all in. Our tray featured a generous box of Loaded Fries topped with cheese sauce and fry sauce, alongside classic Five Guys favourites including a bacon cheeseburger, cheese dog, Cajun fries, and two strawberry milkshakes.

The Loaded Fries were the undisputed star. The fries themselves were perfectly crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside, while the cheese sauce added richness without overwhelming the potatoes. The fry sauce was creamy with a subtle kick, tying everything together and making each bite indulgent yet balanced. Importantly, the portion size did not disappoint. These were proper, share-worthy fries (although you may not want to).

Built for Customisation Fans

What sets Five Guys apart has always been choice, and Loaded Fries are no exception. Fans who love to build their burgers exactly their way will appreciate the same freedom here. Whether you are a bacon-lover, a spice enthusiast, or someone who prefers things simple, the format allows you to curate your ideal flavour explosion.

According to John Eckbert, CEO of Five Guys UK, the launch marks a milestone moment for the brand: ‘Loaded Fries mark a historic moment for Five Guys as our first-ever food menu addition. We believe they’ll be an instant hit and a go-to choice for fans across the UK.

Perfect Timing for the Festive Season

There is something undeniably festive about loaded, cheesy fries, indulgent, comforting and best enjoyed with friends. Whether you are grabbing a bite after Christmas shopping, meeting friends for a casual catch-up, or upgrading your usual Five Guys order, Loaded Fries feel designed for winter cravings. Available for dine-in and takeaway across England, Scotland and Wales (excluding Heathrow Terminal 5), this launch is set to become a new staple rather than a limited-time novelty.

A Brand That Knows Its Strengths

Founded in Virginia in 1986 and launched in the UK in 2013 at Covent Garden, Five Guys has built a fiercely loyal fan base thanks to its commitment to freshness, transparency, and quality. From hand-cut fries prepared daily to burgers grilled to order, the brand has never compromised and Loaded Fries feel like a natural evolution rather than a gimmick.
