Detroit-based StockX was launched in February 2016 as the world’s first ‘Stock Market of Things’. The platform enables consumers to buy and sell across four categories: sneakers, watches, handbags and streetwear.

StockX provides real-time, credible pricing complete with live bids and asks, as well as timestamped transactions, so all participants can make their buy and sell decisions based on transparent and visible information. It also provides in-depth market analysis, individual portfolio tracking, historical sales and volume metrics. All products are physically inspected and authenticated by StockX.

All trades are completely anonymous on StockX for both buyers and sellers. This allows for complete protection against biases and other factors that would otherwise distort a free, visible and open marketplace.

StockX features a wide range of brands across verticals including sneaker mainstays Jordan Brand, adidas, and Nike; Supreme, BAPE, Palace, and Kith in the streetwear category; handbag leaders Louis Vuitton, Goyard, Gucci, and Chanel; and Rolex, Audemars Piguet, and Omega among other timepiece brands.

StockX retraces the most iconic sneaker models worn in the 1990s sitcom

The latest show to get the fashion pack talking is The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The story of a boy from West Philadelphia, sent to live with his aunt and uncle in Bel-Air, the show made Will Smith a household name and  the style icon for a generation, with his hallmark wardrobe of fluorescent colours, supersized tank tops, hats and above all, sneakers.

Fans of the series will remember that Will had a soft spot for Jordan sneakers, and StockX, the luxury resale platform, has identified the most iconic models of the series:

  1. Jordan 5 OG Black Metallic – Series 1, Episode #1, “The Fresh Prince Project”

The Jordan 5s in the ‘90s were indisputably the most popular model. This is clear from the opening theme song of the series where Will shows off a pair of Black Metallics. The 1990 Black Metallics are now almost impossible to find, but the Air Jordan 5 OG Metallic sneaker was released again by Nike in 200020072011 and 2016.

  1. Jordan 5 Retro Grape Fresh Prince (2018) – Series 1, Episode #5 “Homeboy, Sweet Homeboy”

In 2018, to celebrate Will Smith’s 50th birthday, Nike released the Jordan 5 Retro Grace Prince model. Inspired by the AJ5, Will loved to wear this particular model without laces. The homage to the sitcom is unmistakably present in the design with its lack of laces, and its sealed lace holes. Even the writing “Air Jordan” is made with the same graphic design as the logo of the series.

  1. Jordan 7 OG Hare (1992) – Series 3, Episode #54, “Mama’s Baby, Carlton’s Maybe”

Popular throughout the ‘90s, the “Hare” colourway of the Jordan 7 OG Hare became famous thanks to a 1991 commercial where Bugs Bunny ties his laces on a pair of Hare Jordans before he teams up with Michael Jordan to challenge a group of bullies.

  1. Jordan 7 OG Cardinal (1992) – Series 3, Episode #66, “The Best Laid Plans”

On sale for the first time in 1992, the Jordan 7 OG Cardinals is a unique model for its time with its perforated leather on the side and its use of Nike’s Huarache technology – an internal neoprene flap designed in 1991 by Nike Tinker Hatfield which forever changed the way sneakers fit on the foot.

Founded in Detroit in 2016 by entrepreneur Josh Luber, and Dan Gilbert, head of the Cleveland Cavaliers basketball team, StockX, the world’s first ‘stock market of things’, has joined the Unicorn Club after a funding round secured $110 million with the company now valued at over $1 billion. StockX provides real-time, credible pricing complete with live bids and asks, as well as timestamped transactions, so all participants can make their buy and sell decisions based on transparent and visible information. It also provides in-depth market analysis, individual portfolio tracking, historical sales and volume metrics.

All trades are completely anonymous on StockX for both buyers and sellers. This allows for complete protection against biases and other factors that would otherwise distort a free, visible and open marketplace.
