Many people like to go abroad for Christmas, some like to go to a tropical paradise and others like to experience the holiday season in a cold country, cosying up behind a log fire and feeling ultimate festive bliss. Lucky for me, most of my family are situated in Paris, other French cities and the Caribbean. Holding a very special place in my heart, not only does Paris have amazing scenery but Christmas, Parisian style, is the epitome of the perfect festive season.

From the tons of sparkling fairy lights scattered around buildings and shops to the nostalgic Christmas Markets with loads of amazing artisan craftsmen, Paris is so magical, especially that time of year. One of the most visited places is obviously the Eiffel Tower, known for its twinkling lights but one attraction that goes all out is the Champs-Élysées. Known for being nearly 2km and for linking both the Arc de Triomphe with the Place de la Concorde, the Champs-Élysées is one of the main shopping attractions in Paris.

Situated on the avenue of Champs-Élysées, there is also the theatre that got its name from the famous avenue. The Théâtre des Champs-Élysées dates back to 1913 when it was built by the Perrez brothers and was the first-ever Parisian theatre to be entirely made out of reinforced concrete. Nevertheless, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées was and (is still now) known for being one of the most elegant performance venues in Paris; With many still going to visit to take in the intricately detailed, vaulted ceiling mural, painted by Maurice Dennis.

One of the other main reasons why Paris is desired is due to Paris being the Fashion Capital of the world! Throughout the city, there are many boulevards that are lined with the worlds favourite fashion designers. With many of the worlds most famous fashion designers coming from France, you can expect to see flagship stores scattered around the city. From the world’s famous, Chanel to the much desired Hermès, you can be sure to see a designer store every corner you turn.

One of the flagship stores that I wanted to visit was Valentino, where one of my dearest friends, Freddy, works. Despite being an Italian fashion house, Valentino has had a huge impact on the fashion industry in general, not just in France. After swiftly re-opening in 2012 due to renovations by famous architect David Chipperfield, many have visited the Valentino store not only for the garments but also for the ambience created by the world-renowned architect. Before stepping into the store, you are able to take in the remarkable view of the Eiffel Tower behind you as well as the atmosphere around you.

With each room comes a new theme that all beautifully tie together. From the opulent, classic Valentino red to the ambience created by the grand chandeliers hanging above, each room has a different aura not only created by the decor but by the colour coordination of the garments displayed in every room.

From the dark oakwood flooring on the staircase combined with chalk-white walls, the Valentino store creates a unique atmosphere that combines a palatial vibe with a classic modern take on Haute couture, which makes everyone in the store feel special. With each clothing rail refined by extravagant taste, walking throughout the store is with ease as the store gives off a relaxed but grandeur feel that made visiting the store a memory that will last a lifetime.

As well as Paris known as the fashion capital, it is also known for attracting many artists from around the world to educate themselves and to find a muse for their work. One of the other places I had to definitely visit was my friend, Djenowa, and her amazing concept store, ‘Le Comptoir 2LArt2Vivre’ which is situated in the Vill’Up shopping centre on the 1st-floor facing the escalator. Le Comptoir 2LArt2Vivre is a pop shop filled with Djenowa’s wildest creations from clothing pieces, accessories, art pieces and they also have a bar.

The pop-up store is definitely a breath of fresh air with loads of garments and art pieces, that took inspiration from Djenowa’s heritage but also very own artistic tendencies. The store was amazing and is definitely one of the most memorable highlights of the trip. Not only seeing the concept store but being able to catch up with my friend.

Within the shopping centre, Vill’Up, there was also a super cool experience that you are able to partake in, called iFly. It is an indoor centre where you are able to skydive through a wind tunnel; This activity would be particularly good for someone who hates heights! Even though I didn’t experience it myself, I was able to watch others take part and it looked like great fun! (They even offer a VR experience!)

Paris has so many unique experiences and offerings for people who go to visit. One of the other major reasons why everyone wants to visit Paris is the food (obviously!) With many visiting France simply to try delicacies that the country is known for like escargot or the classic french onion soup, you’ll find that there are many beautiful brasseries, cafes and restaurants scattered all over the city. I had the chance to visit some pretty stunning places to grab a bite to eat so keep an eye on this page to find out more about where I had dined…
